Happy Hours and welcome receptions are the most common way that meeting planners work networking, an essential component of a conference, into the agenda.
Destination Hotels planners saw an opportunity to spice up cocktail hour at La Cantera Resort in San Antonio by introducing the Resort Pub Crawl. Perfect for groups looking to kick traditional business networking up a notch, the Resort Pub Crawl offers an interactive way to explore the property and interact with different members of the group. Meeting planners can designate three to six locations around the resort as stops in the pub crawl. Attendees are given a list of the locations and instructed to stop by each one for a signature cocktail. To encourage attendees to stop at every location, planners can offer a prize to those who make it to all the stops. La Cantera Resort meeting planners recently transformed a client’s welcome reception into an amazing Resort Pub Crawl, sending attendees on an adventure around the property to help them get acclimated with their new surroundings. Here’s how they organized each stop on the Pub Crawl.
Stop 1: Sire Bar
, located in the Lobby. Signature Cocktail: The “Velvet Revolver” Three drops of Sriracha give this bright mixture of Plymouth Gin and Ty Ku Citrus Liqueur with cucumber and lime, a hint of heat with each sip. Served in a martini glass with a cucumber slice for garnish.
Stop 2: Primero Cantina
, located at the Resort Pool. Signature Cocktail: “Vote 4 Pedro”. Try the playfully named “Vote 4 Pedro,” a tequila cocktail that is much more than a margarita. Agave nectar, hibiscus syrup and a pinch of kosher salt shaken with lime and tequila create a uniquely balanced, approachable libation. The presentation in a Marie Antoinette glass adds to the unforgettable nature of the concoction, made all the more memorable by the garnish – an edible hibiscus flower that presents softly sour plum notes.
Stop 3: City View Terrace, located just off the resort’s main entrance. “Setting Sun Sangria” Made with dry white wine, brandy, nutmeg, real vanilla bean, three different types of flavored vodka, cinnamon stalks and a white peach puree flown in from France. The orange and lemon medallions in the drink are macerated for up to three days. A touch of sugar sets off the tartness of the drink, while a touch of sparkling wine gives it backbone and acidity.
La Sierra located inside SweetFire Kitchen
. Signature Cocktail: Jekyll and Hyde” The capper of the night is one of the most intriguing - a very adult butterscotch ice cream shake. White Godiva, Stoli Salted Caramel Vodka blended with a generous portion of full-fat ice cream (no lite or non-fat please), a touch of salt and garnish of real crumbled Werther’s Butterscotch candies.
The Resort Pub Crawl is a creative way for planners to liven up networking and encourage true interaction – over great cocktails. For more information about Destination Hotels meetings and events, or to begin planning your next event, visit Destination Hotels Meetings
